Florida Public Service Commission approves Duke Energy Florida’s request to lower rates in 2027

Good afternoon,

Today, the Florida Public Service Commission approved Duke Energy Florida's request to lower rates in 2027. As a result:

  • Beginning in January 2027, typical residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy per month will pay about $0.95 less than they did in December 2026 and about $33 less than they paid in January 2026.
  • From December 2026 to January 2027, commercial and industrial customers will pay between 0.9% and 3.8% less, although the specific impact will vary depending on several factors.

This reduction is due, in part, to an innovative tax strategy we recently implemented to avoid an increase in the base rate scheduled for 2027. While the base rate helps cover the cost of constructing, operating, and maintaining the electric grid, it's only one of several components that make up the total rate. To learn more about the other charges and how they support investments in customer priorities, including renewable energy and a stronger, more resilient grid, please watch this new video: Understanding Your Electric Bill.

Duke Energy Florida also offers several energy efficiency and financial assistance programs, from free home and business energy assessments to flexible payment plans. For more information, residential customers can visit duke-energy.com/Savings or duke-energy.com/HereToHelp and business customers can go to duke-energy.com/Business/Products.

We're pleased to start 2027 with lower rates and, moving forward, we'll remain committed to keeping costs as low as possible while delivering real, tangible value for our 2 million customers. We'll continue working to strengthen our system and further improve the reliability we know you count on to live your lives, raise your families, and run your businesses every day.

Thank you for entrusting us with that responsibility. It's truly a privilege.
