Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco Álvarez concluded his visit to Brussels, Belgium, where he held a series of meetings to organize the upcoming visit of European Union officials, the date of which will be announced in the coming days.
During the visit, he held a productive meeting with António Costa, President of the European Council, on deepening cooperation, the political dialogue, trade, and investment. They also finalized details for the signing of the Modernized Global Agreement between Mexico and the European Union in preparation for his trip to Mexico.
Secretary Velasco also met with Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, to review the bilateral agenda and underscore the importance of expanding joint work on health, security, and digital affairs.
In addition, he exchanged views with Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, to explore avenues for collaboration on energy transition, sustainable development, and investment in strategic sectors that can drive more equitable and sustainable growth.
The foreign secretary met with Markus Beyrer, President of BusinessEurope, the European confederation of business associations from EU member states, to discuss how to capitalize on emerging opportunities following the signing of the MGA and strengthen supply chain resilience amid the global economic challenges.
The visit also included a meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, with whom he agreed on the importance of parliamentary dialogue to strengthen the relationship and build a strategic agenda between Mexico and the European Union.
