WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced that 15 more medications have been selected for Medicare drug pricing negotiations to lower their costs for seniors on Medicare Part D. This is also the first time prescription drugs covered under Medicare Part B will be negotiated. These new medications come in addition to 25 prescription drugs whose prices have already been negotiated under this authority, which was created in the Inflation Reduction Act that Senator Rosen helped pass. The lowered prices for the first batch of medications included in negotiations went into effect at the beginning of this year.
The latest round of prescription drugs selected for price negotiations includes:
"I'm proud to announce that 15 more medications now qualify for Medicare price negotiations thanks to the law I helped pass," said Senator Rosen. "As Nevadans are being squeezed by rising costs, this new round of negotiations will help lower prescription drug prices for our seniors and give them some much-needed breathing room."
Senator Rosen has been a leader in helping lower medical costs for Nevada's seniors. Last year, Senator Rosen and Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced the bipartisan Reducing Drug Prices for Seniors Act, which would also help directly reduce out-of-pocket costs for medications for seniors on Medicare. Senator Rosen helped pass the bill that gave Medicare the power to negotiate for lower prescription drugs and cap the price of insulin at $35 a month. At the beginning of last year, Senator Rosen announced the start of a cap on prescription drug prices for Nevada seniors that she helped pass.
