Above: The Bay Shore Library will remain open for to-go service and weekly story times during its resoration closure that will begin Oct. 26, 2026 and last until early 2027.

Long Beach, CA - Long Beach Public Library's Bay Shore Neighborhood Library (195 Bay Shore Ave.) will be temporarily closed to allow for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements to the library's restrooms. The Bay Shore Library Restroom Improvements Project closure is expected to begin Oct. 26, 2026, and last until early 2027.

The project includes renovating the library's existing restrooms to create fully accessible, all-gender facilities; relocating the electrical panel to support the updated layout, as well as modifying hallway and office walls. During the renovation, the library's lighting and plumbing fixtures will be upgraded, interior finishes will be replaced and a new drinking fountain will be installed.

While the library is closed, the community will continue to have access to select library services, including:

  • To-Go Service: Afternoon pickup service will be available for library materials.
  • Weekly Story Times: Story times will continue to provide opportunities for children and families to stay connected with the library at off-site locations. For more information about locations, dates, and times, click here.

During Bay Shore Neighborhood Library's temporary closure, three nearby neighborhood libraries will be available for patrons to visit:

  • Alamitos Neighborhood Library (1836 E. 3rd St.)
  • Brewitt Neighborhood Library (4036 E. Anaheim St.)
  • Los Altos Neighborhood Library (5614 E. Britton Dr.)

The project is funded by Measure A, a Long Beach ballot initiative approved by voters in 2016 as a 10-year sales tax to support public infrastructure and public safety services. In 2020, voters approved extending Measure A indefinitely. More information about Measure A is available at longbeach.gov/measurea.
