West Palm Beach, FL (Oct. 16, 2025) - Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) celebrated a major milestone today with the "topping out" of the final phase of its Concourse B expansion project. The traditional ceremony marks the placement of a steel beam, symbolizing significant progress in the construction of the $141 million project that will enhance capacity, improve passenger flow and elevate the customer experience at PBI.
The Concourse B expansion will add new gates, modern amenities and upgraded concessions to meet growing passenger demand while maintaining the airport's reputation for convenience and service.
"Today's topping out is not just about steel and concrete, it's about the future of air travel in Palm Beach County," said Palm Beach County Department of Airports Director Laura Beebe. "This milestone reflects the teamwork, dedication and vision that are bringing this project to life. Once complete, the expansion will provide travelers with a world-class experience while supporting our region's economic growth and connectivity."
"This multi-phase modernization of Concourse B highlights Suffolk's ability to deliver complex aviation projects while keeping the terminal fully operational for thousands of travelers," said Sam Sleiman, Executive Vice President of National Transportation at Suffolk, the contractor for this project. "From coordinating crane operations with air traffic control to scheduling around airport operations, our team has navigated every challenge with careful planning and dedication. We're proud to partner with the Department of Airports on their largest project to date, and today's topping out reflects the expertise and teamwork that Suffolk brings to every phase of a project."
Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, project partners and community leaders signed the beam, which serves as a symbolic sign "off" on a job well done and a reminder of community support before it was lifted into place. This phase of the project remains on schedule and is expected to open to passengers in 2027.
