WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of Senate Republican Leadership and lifelong sports fan and competitor, joined FOX News' "America's Newsroom" to discuss West Virginia's Save Women's Sports Act, which the Supreme Court of the United States is hearing oral arguments on today in West Virginia v B.P.J. Senator Capito, who joined an amicus brief[HT1] in support of the law, has been a leading voice in the Senate on the importance of protecting women and girls' sports at every level.

HIGHLIGHTS:

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PROTECTING WOMEN'S SPORTS: "You wouldn't think we would need legislation, this is simply a matter of fairness and really commonsense. And I think that's the way the Court will see this. We've come a long way since Title IX, 1972 when I myself was playing for my college, it made a huge difference in availabilities and opportunities for women in sports all over this country. We can't erase that history, and we want to continue moving forward as we have with girls' sports. By allowing for unfair and even unsafe competition in some instances, they're working to destroy great milestones we've achieved over the many many years."

ON THE NEED TO HAVE THIS ISSUE SETTLED: "This is a very commonsense issue on both sides of the aisle. We need to have this settled. We need to know that girls are going to be playing in sports with girls only and that it's going to be a fair playing field. When this is all said and done, there's going to be a sigh of relief from our institutions who have women's sports, but also who have sports clubs for the younger ages. This is an issue that shouldn't even be questioned, but unfortunately this is where we are. My colleagues everywhere would like to see this settled."
