The driver of a Toyota Camry died in a collision with a tractor-trailer on I-24 east near the Rutherford County line at 12:40 a.m. today.
The deceased has been tentatively identified as a 26-year-old man. The Medical Examiner is assisting in making positive identification.
The preliminary investigation shows that traffic was slowing for lane closures due to road work. The tractor-trailer was preparing to change lanes when the Camry made a sudden lane change and struck the back of the trailer. The speed of the Camry caused the trailer to intrude into the cabin of the car. The driver of the truck was not injured.
There was no evidence of impairment at the scene. The preliminary contributing factors to the collision appear to be speed and failure to maintain lane on the part of the Camry driver.
