The North Carolina Senate today confirmed Nate Denny as Secretary of the N.C. Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) and State Chief Information Officer. Denny has more than two decades of public-sector experience at the state and federal levels, including leadership roles that have directly improved technology access and security for North Carolinians. His extensive background ensures the department's continued focus on effective technology strategy, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and broadband expansion across North Carolina.

Denny most recently served as principal at EQV Strategic and previously held several key leadership roles at NCDIT from 2017 to 2025, including Deputy Secretary, Chief of Staff, and Legislative Director. In his prior tenure as Deputy Secretary, he led North Carolina's broadband expansion initiatives for three years, overseeing the award of more than $500 million in funding to connect nearly 187,000 North Carolinians to reliable high-speed internet. His proven experience in broadband development underscores the department's ongoing commitment to expanding high-speed internet access and adoption across North Carolina.

"I am grateful for the confidence placed in me and deeply appreciative of the opportunity to continue serving the people of North Carolina," said Denny. "I especially want to thank Governor Josh Stein for his leadership and trust. I look forward to working with our partners across state government to make technology more secure, more effective, and easier for North Carolinians to use."

A native of North Carolina, Denny earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law.
