The City of Mission Viejo will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Wednesday, November 11 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, bringing the community together to honor the men and women who have served our nation.
In celebration of our nation's 250th anniversary and this year's event theme "reaching for the stars," the indoor ceremony begins at 8:30 am and will feature keynote speaker Colonel B.P. Lambert, the new commanding officer of the City's adopted Headquarters Battalion, First Marine Division. Guest speaker Lt. Colonel Kevin Champaigne of the United States Space Force, the nation's newest military branch, will also share remarks.
The program will include a musical performance by Chad Berlinghieri, a seasoned performer with the LA Philharmonic and Opera Pacific at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Folks will also witness a presentation of colors by the Marine Color Guard, followed by a three-volley rifle salute and the playing of taps.
This year's ceremony will also highlight local efforts to address veteran homelessness. The City is hosting United Way's Who Solves Homelessness traveling exhibit, which showcases individuals and organizations working to address homelessness in Orange County, including veterans, and highlights ways community members can help make a difference.
To ensure an inclusive experience, sign language interpretation will be provided during the ceremony. Folks requiring accommodations for other disabilities can call 949-470-8412.
Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to an outdoor reception at Veterans Plaza.
The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center is located at 24932 Veterans Way in Mission Viejo. For more information, call 949-470-3061.
