BOZEMAN - From deep dives into prehistoric ecosystems to celebrations of Indigenous culture and regional wildlife, the Museum of the Rockies at Montana State University will host a new slate of engaging experiences in February.
Highlights for the month include:

"Presenting Prehistory: The Impacts of Ancient Volcanic Eruptions on Climate and Ecosystems:" Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 5:30 p.m. in the Hager Auditorium. A lecture by MSU associate professor Madison Myers will explore how massive volcanic activity has historically shaped the Earth's environments. Free for members, $5 for non-members. Advance registration is required.

Exhibit preview, "Frogs: A Chorus of Colors:" Thursday, Feb. 5, at 5:30 p.m. A members-only preview of the museum's newest traveling exhibit, showcasing live frogs and colorful interactive elements.

Virtual Fossil Fridays: Feb. 6, 20 and 27 at 9 a.m.: A digital series held via Zoom featuring interviews with international paleontologists and deep dives into featured fossils. Free and open to the public.

"Dark Biosphere" planetarium show: Multiple showings daily from Feb. 6 through April 30. Journey hundreds of miles beneath the Earth's surface to discover the vast biodiversity of microorganisms thriving in extreme conditions in this new, immersive show narrated by actor and filmmaker Viggo Mortensen. Included with membership, $6 per show per non-member.

Exhibit opening, "Frogs: A Chorus of Colors:" Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A public celebration featuring hands-on crafts and sensory bins. Included with membership or admission. Visitors can explore the biology, natural history, cultural significance and ecosystem importance of frogs, along with the threats they face in a changing world. Featuring live frogs and hands-on interactive elements, this exhibit will be open through Sept. 6.

"The Significance of Round Dances:" Friday, Feb. 13, at 4 p.m. A presentation by Vincent Short geared toward schoolchildren will precede a 5:30 p.m. public event in the Hager Auditorium exploring the traditions of the Aaniiih and Nakoda tribes through song and dance.
The Museum of the Rockies will host a Raptor Meet and Greet event on Feb. 21.

Raptor meet-and-greet: Saturday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. in the Hager Auditorium. Visitors can meet birds of prey from the Montana Raptor Conservation Center. Included with membership or admission.

Rosenberry-Donohue Lecture: Thursday, Feb. 26, at 5:30 p.m. in the Hager Auditorium. Author Leila Philip will discuss her critically acclaimed book, "Beaverland," exploring the vital role beavers play in the American West. Free for members, $5 for non-members. Registration is required.
