On Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 1:45 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to North Precinct were on patrol, southbound on North Vancouver Avenue turning east on North Weidler Street, when they saw a Lime electric scooter rider proceeding westbound Weidler Street against the one-way traffic. The officers saw the rider enter the intersection and collide with another vehicle that was southbound on North Vancouver Avenue. Officers immediately responded by requesting emergency medical services, aiding the injured rider, and securing the area by stopping traffic. Additional officers responded to assist as well.
The rider of the scooter, Alicia M. Long, 41, of Portland, was seriously injured and transported to the hospital by ambulance. The adult female driver of the involved vehicle, a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 SUV, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Initial indicators from medical staff were that the Long's injuries were not life-threatening.
The initial investigation determined that Long was riding the scooter westbound on North Weidler Street, which is a one-way street eastbound. The traffic light was showing red for eastbound Weidler traffic. The vehicle driver was southbound on North Vancouver Avenue and entered the intersection on a solid green light, striking the scooter. Long was not wearing a helmet.
Later that day, a family member notified police that Long's medical condition had deteriorated and she was not expected to survive. Long died the afternoon of October 23, 2025. Her family has been notified of her death.
The PPB Traffic Investigations Unit assumed the investigation, which is ongoing. The case number is 25-289918.
Including this one, there have been 34 traffic fatalities in the City of Portland year-to-date. Five of those involved bicycles or scooters.
