Regional and international bodies, development banks, and the private sector gathered in Istanbul, Türkiye, for the "Fifth Consultative Forum of the Regional Cooperation Organisations" in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation region.
The forum, hosted by the Islamic Development Bank, focused on opportunities to advance trade facilitation, investment and connectivity across the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's 57 member states.
IRU TIR & Transit Director Tatiana Rey-Bellet said, "Connectivity is not only about transport links but also about economic opportunities, regional integration, and stability.
"Bringing partners together will help build value chains and multi-modal corridors backed by efficient port logistics, seamless sea to land transport transfers, and digital solutions simplifying and accelerating supply chains," she added.
IRU also stressed how the global TIR transit system continues to drive more efficient, secure and sustainable trade - reducing costs and emissions and fostering regional cooperation.
"Iraq's accession to TIR was a pivotal milestone for the region," said Tatiana Rey-Bellet. "It unlocked secure and efficient land routes that link six neighbouring Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member states and connect the Middle East with global markets."
"It's important to continue expanding the use of TIR, as well as sharing knowledge, in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation region," she added.
The global TIR system cuts transit times by up to 92% and costs by up to 50%. Digitalisation, including with eTIR, further bolsters the benefits of the system. This digital efficiency has led several countries to establish dedicated Green Lanes for TIR shipments at border crossings, enabling even faster clearance for pre-declared goods.
