The newest addition to Veterans Memorial Park, the Gold Star Monument, was unveiled on October 18, 2025, in a moving ceremony honoring the families of our fallen service members. Over 60 Gold Star family members from northern Utah attended the remembrance ceremony and a light luncheon, celebrating the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of their loved ones.
Mayor Dirk Burton led the dedication, calling the monument "a symbol of love, remembrance, and gratitude" for the families who carry their heroes' legacy. The program included the Presentation of Colors by the West Jordan Honor Guard, the National Anthem by Reid Newman, the Pledge of Allegiance led by Talon Greef, and an invocation by a National Guard Chaplain.
Council Member Kelvin Green, Melinda Mamales, and Mike Gannon shared messages of support and highlighted organizations that serve Gold Star Families. Families were introduced during a remembrance ceremony, with yellow roses honoring their loved ones, and the program concluded with Taps performed by Lilliane Waelder.
The event was supported by Patriot Guard Riders, the West Jordan City Honor Guard, and Gold Star Committee members, who secured donations from Flower Patch, Chick-fil-A, and Sysco to make the day memorable for all attendees.
Mayor Burton reflected, "This memorial will stand for generations, but it is your stories, your courage, and your love that truly keep the legacy of our heroes alive." Attendees were invited to continue honoring the fallen with shared memories and refreshments at the pavilion, bringing the community together in gratitude and remembrance.
