LOS ANGELES - As Mayor Bass marks the one year anniversary of Shine LA, leaders across Los Angeles recognized the importance of the movement. Shine LA seeks to bring Angelenos together through community-driven volunteer activations to build thriving neighborhoods and make long-term investments in the places they call home. Here's was local leaders had to say:
Kelly Lynch, Beautification Committee Chair, Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association
"Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association is excited to be partnering with ShineLA again this year for a day of service in our community. This year we expect over 300 participants in addition to support from our local community partners, Sherman Oaks/ Encino Chamber, Paint Sherman Oaks, VCC- Volunteers Cleaning Communities and The Village at Sherman Oaks and many local businesses who are sponsoring this year's event. Last year we removed nearly 1,000 pounds of debris from our streets, painted utility boxes and planted 15 trees along Ventura Blvd. This year we will be painting more utility boxes and hope to double the amount of litter clean up as well as planting 35 trees along the remaining section of Ventura Blvd. SOHA would like to thank Mayor Bass and her amazing ShineLA team for partnering with us to make it all happen!"
Malcolm McFarland II, Public Policy Manager, Lyft
"Los Angeles is getting ready to welcome the world, and Shine LA is what that preparation looks like at the neighborhood level. Lyft is proud to help get volunteers to these events and bring in our driver community to support, because serving and connecting has always been at the heart of what we do."
Jon Poelma, Managing Director, APM Terminals
"APM Terminals has been part of the Wilmington neighborhood for decades - our people work here, volunteer here, and have built relationships with the families and organizations that make this community what it is. When Mayor Bass calls on Angelenos to hit the streets and get our neighborhoods ready for the big spotlight, we're glad to show up and do our part."
Susie Tappouni, Head of Corporate Affairs, AMGEN
"We're proud that more than 100 Amgen volunteers have come together to support ShineLA as part of our broader commitment to the Greater Los Angeles community. Whether it's here in Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks, in Agoura Hills' Cheseboro Canyon, or supporting nonprofit partners like Manna and Foodshare, our employees consistently step up to give their time and energy to the communities where they live and work. Days like today reflect the spirit of service that defines Amgen year-round, and we're grateful to partner with incredible organizations across Greater LA."
