ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Walk to Remember, honoring pregnancy, infant and child loss, is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

The event will begin in the Day Surgery gallery of the hospital (hallway left of the Emergency Department entrance) with a reception and an opportunity to create remembrance art. Beginning at 10 a.m., the walk begins and continues to University Lake. The event concludes with a brief ceremony of remembrance at the lake.

For those unable to attend, the lakeside ceremony will be available at 10:20 a.m. on the Providence Alaska Facebook page as a live event: facebook.com/ProvidenceHealthAlaska.

The Walk to Remember is a nationwide annual event that occurs in October as part of Pregnancy, Infant & ChildLoss Awareness Month and in recognition of all pregnancy losses, including miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, fetal deaths and neonatal deaths, as well as the loss of a child. The Alaska Walk to Remember is held each August so it occurs before the first winter snowfall and ensures people of all ages can participate.

The Walk to Remember is sponsored by Hospice of Anchorage and the Providence Alaska Children's Hospital Bereavement Council, which works with the patient's family, along with the patient's physician and the hospital's interdisciplinary team, to help with the transition from life through death and to cope with loss and grief.

This is a family-friendly event, and all are invited to attend.
