Taiwan Tech in QS Rankings: Engineering & Technology Ranks 68th Globally, with 11 Subjects in Taiwan’s Top 5.[31 Mar. 2026]

The UK higher education analytics organization QS recently released the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. Taiwan Tech had 13 subjects ranked across three broad fields, with 11 subjects placing among the top five in Taiwan. Notably, the Engineering and Technology field made a significant leap, rising 68 places from 262nd last year to 194th globally, ranking fourth in Taiwan. In addition, three subjects - Architecture and Built Environment, Civil and Structural Engineering, and Education and Training - also ranked within the top three nationwide, demonstrating outstanding performance.

Taiwan Tech had 13 subjects ranked this year. Its Engineering and Technology field climbed 68 places to 194th globally, while Architecture and Built Environment, Civil and Structural Engineering, and Education and Training all ranked among the top three in Taiwan.

In terms of broad-field performance, Taiwan Tech has built a solid foundation in Engineering and Technology and Natural Sciences, with nine subjects ranked. Among them, Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering, and Materials Science were all placed in the 201-250 global range, while Civil and Structural Engineering ranked within 201-275. Chemistry was ranked 251-300 globally and fourth in Taiwan, reflecting Taiwan Tech's stable international competitiveness across key science and engineering disciplines.

In the Arts and Humanities field, Art and Design ranked within the 151-200 global range, while Architecture and Built Environment was placed within 201-260 globally. These programs emphasize interdisciplinary integration and practice-oriented teaching, continuously cultivating talents with both creative thinking and hands-on abilities. Taiwan Tech students consistently achieve outstanding results in globally recognized design competitions such as the Red Dot Design Awardand the iF Design Award, as well as international architecture awards, steadily enhancing the university's global visibility in the design field.

Furthermore, Taiwan Tech ranked 101-150 globally and third in Taiwan in Education and Training, behind National Taiwan Normal University and National Taiwan University. In the Social Sciences and Management field, Taiwan Tech improved from the 451-500 range last year to 401-450, indicating a more comprehensive development in management and education and a steady move toward becoming a well-rounded, internationally oriented applied research university.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject cover five broad fields and 55 disciplines, evaluating institutions based on indicators such as academic reputation, employer reputation, H-index, citations per paper, and international research networks. The rankings are widely regarded as one of the most influential global university ranking systems. In addition to continued progress in subject rankings and research performance, Taiwan Tech has also shown significant improvement in two key indicators: academic reputation and employer reputation. Its employer reputation score rose from 58.1 in 2025 to 63.7 (a 9.6% increase), while academic reputation improved from 73.9 to 75, reflecting growing recognition from both academia and industry. This not only affirms the quality of Taiwan Tech's teaching and research, but also highlights the strong performance and trustworthiness of its graduates in the global job market.

Taiwan Tech has also demonstrated growth in both academic reputation and employer reputation, alongside its continued advancement in subject rankings and research performance.

In recent years, Taiwan Tech has actively promoted internationalization strategies, including strengthening global academic collaborations, deepening industry-academia partnerships, and expanding English-medium instruction (EMI). These efforts have begun to yield tangible results. As international engagement increases, the performance of faculty and students in global academia and the workforce has gained greater visibility, further enhancing the university's competitiveness and influence.

This marks the 16th edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, covering approximately 1,900 higher education institutions across 100 countries. Coinciding with Taiwan Tech's 51st anniversary, the university - despite being relatively young - continues to make steady progress in major global rankings, showcasing its strengths in innovation, flexibility, and pragmatic development. From engineering and technology to design, humanities, management, and education, Taiwan Tech continues to promote interdisciplinary integration, enhance students' global mobility and employability, and build a distinctive higher education brand.
