Commissioners announced NY Waterway as vendor to Belford Ferry Terminal

FREEHOLD, NJ - The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners has passed a resolution authorizing a contract with NY Waterways for the operation of ferry services to and from the Belford Ferry Terminal starting September 8, 2026, during the Commissioner Meeting on Thursday, August 13.

"The County issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) soliciting vendors to submit competitive proposals by April 14, 2026, for the provision of the Services for a period of two years with two one-year renewal options," said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. "We had two proposals where the Evaluation Committee, authorized under N.JA.C. 5:34-4.3(d)(2), determined that the NY Waterway proposal would better serve our residents and commuters with more rides available at a lower cost."

NY Waterway will provide weekday morning and evening ferry service between Belford in Middletown, NJ, and Downtown Manhattan (Pier 11 Wall Street and Brookfield Place) with further direct or free connecting service to Midtown Manhattan (West 39th Street), Paulus Hook in Jersey City and all other NY Waterway terminals. Weekday Schedule: The weekday morning peak service schedule will include six morning departures from Belford beginning at 5:15am. There will be five peak evening departures from Manhattan and Paulus Hook back to Belford. The full schedules can be accessed at nywaterway.com/Belford

Weekend Schedule: Ferries will depart Belford three times a day, with two evening return departures from Manhattan. (There will be no Paulus Hook service on weekends).

Fares: Fare options will include adult one-way fares ($23) and several discounted multi-trip fares (7-day, monthly, 10-trip and 40-trip).

Note: NY Waterway will honor valid tickets between Belford and Manhattan from the previous ferry operator on Tuesday, September 8 only.

NY Waterway also provides seamless shuttle bus connections that serve multiple routes from the Midtown Ferry Terminal, including West 57th, West 50th, West 42nd, West 34th Streets and Downtown (12th Avenue) routes. The free shuttle buses can be tracked in real-time on the free NY Waterway App.
