We're speaking to colleagues about their businesses, roles and the best professional advice they've received. This week, we're switching things up with two colleagues and six questions! Meet Adam Glassman and Rae Ann Herman, the team behind Oprah's Favorite Things, who've worked together for 15 years.
Tell us about your role.
Adam: We are hunters and gatherers for fun, interesting, new and innovative products for Oprah's Favorite Things and for the broader Oprah Daily site.
There is not a stone we don't look under nor a trade show we don't go to. It's about gifting with purpose. It always has to bring joy and relevance to your life, and that's really what Oprah has always wanted since day one.
What is your proudest career moment?
Adam: With Oprah's network - OWN - we did a full series on the making of Favorite Things and a surprise giveaway for military spouses.
Rae Ann: That to me was Oprah in action: the Oprah effect. It really is magical.
Adam: Even this year, we surprised women caregivers and brought them to the new Waldorf Astoria Spa to give them a whole spa day, including an appearance from Oprah and Favorite Things.
How are you innovating at Oprah Daily?
Adam: We launched something very new and exciting this year called Gift Finder, where you can actually type in "I'm looking for a gift for my teacher, sister, someone turning 50," and there you have it: a whole list of curated gifts that come from Favorite Things. It just makes shopping so much easier and fun.
What's your favorite thing on the list this year?
Adam: Oprah's favorite is stingray spot remover!
Rae Ann: One of my faves is the Rag & Bone Jeans - the sweatpants jeans - because all of my daughters want them. They're not really jeans, they look like denim jeans, but they're really athleisure, and they're really soft.
Adam: Brave Pudding - a brand new line! If a pair of socks had a baby with a sneaker, you'd have these Brave Pudding shoes, look them up.
What is your favorite part of the holiday season?
Rae Ann: I love when the list launches and spending time with family and friends to celebrate!
What is your best piece of advice for colleagues?
Rae Ann: Be flexible and always be ready to learn, especially because things are always changing in our world.
