COLUMBUS, Ohio - With colder days and nights quickly approaching, now's the time for Ohioans to make sure heating systems in their homes and businesses are in proper working order. The Ohio Department of Commerce Divisions of State Fire Marshal and Industrial Compliance encourage all residents to have their heating systems inspected and maintained to ensure safe and efficient operation throughout the upcoming colder months.
Ohio State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon says proper maintenance of these systems is vital to preventing fires and carbon monoxide poisoning, which can occur with little to no notice and can be deadly.
"Having your home heating system checked out each year by a professional is not just about comfort, it is about safety," Marshal Reardon said. "A seasonal tune-up can catch issues before they might otherwise lead to a dangerous and deadly situation, which we unfortunately see each and every year. Conducting the proper maintenance today can make a big difference in protecting yourself, your family and your home tomorrow."
Meanwhlie, Division of Industrial Compliance Superintendent Robb Coventry says not only can maintenance improve safety, it can also save you money each month.
"Regardless of the type of home you live in, a few simple steps can make a big difference in staying safe and warm this winter, as well as the amount that appears on your heating bills," Coventry said. "A quick inspection now can prevent major problems later."
