ICYMI: Trump White House Does Everything in Their Power To Protect Billionaires Over Working Families Arrow

New reporting today revealed that the Trump administration is once again siding with billionaires over working families, dismantling efforts by the Internal Revenue Service to go after aggressive tax shelters that allow the ultrarich and big corporations to avoid paying their fair share.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"Trump and his administration are doing everything in their power to protect billionaires and big corporations. This shouldn't come as a surprise, considering Trump's White House has been all about protecting the rich and powerful while throwing working families under the bus. Trump already gave billionaires and big corporations a massive tax handout at the expense of working families in his big, ugly budget bill, but apparently that wasn't enough. Now it'll be even easier for the ultrarich to avoid paying their fair share while Americans pinch pennies to afford high prices and struggle to find jobs. Under Trump's watch, the rich get richer and working families get screwed."

Key points from the New York Times reporting:

  • The Trump administration is quietly dismantling efforts by the Internal Revenue Service to shut down a slew of aggressive tax shelters used by America's biggest multinational companies and wealthiest people.
  • The administration, bowing to pressure from industry groups, right-wing activists and congressional Republicans, is quickly rolling back several IRS law enforcement efforts, including one aimed at a lucrative tax shelter used by major companies.
  • The now-cancelled IRS crackdown was projected to raise more than $100 billion over 10 years.
