A strong frontal system will bring periods of heavy rain, strong to locally damaging winds and minor to moderate coastal impacts to Stamford late tonight into Friday Night. A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY is in effect from 8am to 1pm Friday
Strong to locally Damaging Winds (Wind Advisory in Effect)
▪ Peak Winds: Southerly 20-35 mph with gusts to 55 mph (highest across southern and eastern shorelines) late tonight into early Friday afternoon, shifting to the west Friday afternoon into Friday Night. Isolated gusts of 60 to 65 mph possible, mainly Friday morning into early afternoon.
▪ Impacts: Strong winds will blow down scattered tree limbs and blow around/damage unsecured objects and decorations. Scattered trees and power lines could be downed, with power outages possible.
Heavy Rain
▪ Storm Total Rainfall: 3/4 to 1 1/2" likely areawide, locally up to 2" possible. Highest amounts likely across higher terrain N&W of NYC/NJ metro.
▪ Peak Rainfall Rates: Briefly up to 3/4"/hr possible Friday morning into early afternoon
▪ Impacts: Areas of minor urban and poor drainage flooding, particularly for Friday AM commute. Low and localized potential for flash flooding(<5% probability) from combination of rainfall, snowmelt, leaf/snow clogged drains and high tides. Disruptions to transportation are likely Fri AM.
Coastal/Shoreline Impacts (Coastal Flood Warnings/Advisories in Effect)
▪ Minor to Moderate coastal flooding: (Inundation 1 to 2 ft, locally 2 ½ ft above ground) during Friday AM high tide for vulnerable coastal locales along NY/NJ Harbor, southern NYC/LI shorelines and Long Island Sound shorelines. Highest amounts for southern Nassau County.
▪ Beach flooding and scattered areas of dune erosion: 8 to 12 ft breaking surf along oceanfront with Friday AM high tide.
