On August 17, 2025 the Legal Defense Fund; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; the Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute; the Houston Area Urban League; Black Voters Matter; and Friendship-West Baptist Church submitted testimony tothe Texas Senate Special Committee on Redistricting to supplement our July 24 and Aug. 8 testimonies. This additional supplemental testimony reflects some of the groups' current thinking about the severely flawed mid-decade congressional redistricting process that remains underway and related maps that are being considered.
The Texas legislature has made it clear that they do not value public testimony. Despite the overwhelming majority of public comments indicating that Texans do not want mid-cycle redistricting under the current circumstances, the legislature has continued to push forward with redrawing its maps. The legislature should prioritize the voices of their constituents.
