BELLEFONTE, Pa. - U.S. Representative Glenn "GT" Thompson (PA-15) today announced $1.8 million in federal funding for the West Market Street Pedestrian Improvements and Traffic System Improvements Project in East Buffalo Township.
The funding will help improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety in the downtown area of East Buffalo. The project will create curb extensions at various intersections, which will help lower traffic speeds and shorten the distance at pedestrian crossings.
"The East Buffalo Main Street is a hub for businesses and an integral part of the community, and it's important everyone feels safe," Rep. Thompson said. "East Buffalo provides services to thousands of people, including members of the Bucknell University community. I am excited to see the positive impacts of this project."
"We were excited to hear that Congress has funded our West Market Street improvement project. This is a critical first step toward improving pedestrian safety, calming traffic, and supporting economic development along our main street," said the East Buffalo Township Board of Supervisors. "A small township like East Buffalo can only execute a major infrastructure project like this with financial support from the local, state, and federal level. We are grateful to Senator Fetterman and Representative Thompson for moving the project through the appropriations process and securing the funding for this important community development project. We can't wait to get started."
Rep. Thompson secured the funding through Community Project Funding for Fiscal Year 2026.
