DSU Recognizes Student Employees of the Year

April 17, 2026

Dakota State University's Career and Professional Development office has named Oliviyah Thornton and Dylan Langerock as the 2025-2026 On-Campus and Off-Campus Student Employees of the Year. The awards are selected by an independent committee of DSU staff.

Thornton, an office assistant in Career and Professional Development, was nominated by Rachel Bergeland. In her role, Thornton supports daily operations while contributing ideas to improve processes and student engagement.

"Oliviyah has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, initiative, and a positive attitude since her first day, consistently delivering high-quality work with strong attention to detail," Bergeland said. "She has elevated our team by going above and beyond and contributing thoughtful ideas to improve processes and better serve students."

Bergeland noted Thornton's creation of a color-coded Employer Navigation Guide for career fairs, which improved accessibility and effectiveness for participants, as well as her work to enhance annual report data accuracy and usability.

"As a Career Ambassador, she excels at engaging students and promoting our services, all while balancing academics and athletics," Bergeland added.

Langerock, a member services representative at East River Federal Credit Union, was nominated by Tanya Hobson, president and CEO of East River Federal Credit Union. In his off-campus role, Langerock has demonstrated strong customer service and teamwork while representing both his employer and DSU.

"Dylan Langerock has distinguished himself ... through exceptional professionalism and compassion," Hobson said. "His dedication to member service and proactive teamwork earned him a full-time lending position even before graduation."

Hobson also highlighted Langerock's work ethic and maturity, noting his ability to represent both organizations with professionalism.

Career and Professional Development recognized both students for their contributions and extended appreciation to all DSU student employees and supervisors.

"We congratulate Oliviyah and Dylan on this recognition and thank all DSU student employees for the impact they make on campus and in the community," said Eric Hanson, Career Development Specialist. "We also appreciate the supervisors who took the time to nominate and support their student employees."
