Mexico Broadens Access to Legal Information for Its Community in Canada
  • March 16-20 marked the fifth annual Legal Advisory Week (SALE)
  • More than 40,167 people took part in in-person and virtual activities
  • Nearly 30 consular protection cases identified

The Foreign Ministry and Mexico's consular network in Canada held the fifth annual Legal Advisory Week (SALE) under the theme "Know and exercise your rights" - an initiative designed to bring legal information and guidance to the Mexican community.

Held March 16-20, the week featured more than 62 in-person and virtual activities reaching 40,167 people. Workshops, talks, and specialized consultations gave attendees free legal guidance on labor, civil, immigration, and criminal matters.

The initiative was made possible by coordination between Mexico's consulates in Canada and various strategic partners, enabling the delivery of more than 3,600 free legal orientations, information sessions, consultations, and referrals, primarily in the areas of labor and immigration.

It also opened channels for preventive outreach, helping the Mexican community understand their rights and the tools available to exercise them.

The week brought to light nearly 30 consular protection cases, which were referred for follow-up by Mexico's consular network in Canada. The cases involved primarily labor, immigration, and access-to-justice matters, allowing for timely support and reinforcing preventive protection efforts on behalf of the Mexican community.

For the Foreign Ministry, building partnerships with community organizations, local authorities, and legal specialists has helped expand the reach of preventive protection services, bringing professional and timely assistance to Mexicans living or working across Canadian provinces.

With this fifth annual event, the Mexican government reaffirms its commitment to consular protection, access to justice, and the legal empowerment of its community abroad.

The consular network in Canada will continue promoting initiatives that contribute to the protection and well-being of the Mexican community there.
