Russia: Statement by the Spokesperson on regional elections and their non-applicability to Ukrainian territories

On 14 September, Russian authorities hold regional and local elections, including in the illegally annexed Crimea, namely the city of Sevastopol. The EU does not recognise either the so-called "elections" or their results in the occupied territory. This is another violation of international law, including the UN Charter and Ukraine's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

More than a decade after Russia's invasion and attempted illegal annexation of Crimea, the EU reiterates its position: Crimea is Ukraine. Referring to the UN General Assembly Resolution of 27 March 2014, we call on Russia to cease its efforts to undermine Ukraine's national unity and territorial integrity.

The European Union expresses its unwavering support for Ukraine in its efforts to resist Russia's war of aggression and remains steadfast in its support to a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
