The United Nations in Mexico, in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry and the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), presented the Results Report of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2020-2025, which summarizes five years of joint work to advance wellbeing and sustainable development in Mexico for the benefit of those who need it most.
During one of the most complex periods in recent history - marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, economic crises, climate change, and geopolitical tensions - the report documents more than 400 cooperation initiatives in all 32 states, implemented in partnership with the 23 agencies, funds, and programs of the United Nations system and with public, social, and private stakeholders, in four strategic areas: equality and inclusion; prosperity and innovation; green economy and climate change; and peace, justice, and the rule of law, with crosscutting approaches on gender and human mobility.
The collaboration has contributed to Mexico's efforts so that:
The event was led by Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco and UN Resident Coordinator in Mexico Allegra Baiocchi, together with the UN Country Team in Mexico. It highlighted that international cooperation has greater impact when it responds to national priorities.
Foreign Secretary Velasco underscored Mexico's long-standing commitment to the United Nations since 1945 and its active role in strengthening the multilateral system, including contributions to international law, disarmament, human rights, and sustainable economic and social development.
Allegra Baiocchi, UN Resident Coordinator in Mexico, reaffirmed that Mexico is a strategic partner for multilateralism and emphasized the need for a more efficient, coherent, and transformative UN focused on results.
The event also marked the transition to the new Cooperation Framework 2026-2031. Its priorities include innovation, digital transformation, substantive equality, and sustainable reindustrialization - aligned with the National Development Plan 2025-2030, the 2030 Agenda, and the UN80 Initiative to renew the multilateral system.
Both sides agreed that the next phase will require stronger coordination across institutions and deeper partnerships with local governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society. The shared goal is to achieve a broader impact and a path toward development that is more equitable, prosperous, sustainable, and peaceful, leaving no one behind.
