FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 2, 2026
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Corey Delantau Stubblefield, 38, of Alexandria, is in custody at the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center following his indictment in connection with the July 15, 2026, shooting death of Charles Talley, 36. Police technology and surveillance footage helped Alexandria Police Department detectives identify a vehicle associated with the shooting and develop leads that ultimately led to Stubblefield.
On September 30, the Northern Virginia Multijurisdictional Grand Jury, sitting in Alexandria, returned an indictment charging Stubblefield with Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of Murder. On October 1, APD officers traveled to North Carolina, took custody of Stubblefield and transported him to Alexandria.
At approximately 11:14 p.m. on July 15, officers responded to a report of gunshots in the parking lot of the ParcView Apartments in the 5300 block of Holmes Run Parkway. Officers found Mr. Talley suffering from gunshot injuries and immediately provided lifesaving aid. He was transported to a local hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.
The Criminal Investigations Division's Violent Crimes Unit, with Detective Marable leading the investigation, worked persistently to identify and locate the suspect. Detectives used witness information, surveillance footage and automated license plate reader technology to advance the investigation. Ballistic and forensic evidence helped investigators connect the suspect to the scene.
Investigators learned that Stubblefield had traveled to North Carolina after the shooting. He was arrested there on August 27, 2026, on a related firearms charge.
APD thanks the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and the Sampson County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in this case.
The charges will be tried in the Circuit Court for the City of Alexandria.
Anyone with additional information about the July 15 shooting is asked to contact Detective Marable at 703-746-6883. Tips may be submitted anonymously.
