Clarkson Professor Receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Research and Scholarship

Clarkson University Professor Weiming Wu has been honored with the Lifetime Achievement in Research and Scholarship Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to water resources engineering and his sustained impact on the field.

Wu is the James K. Edzwald Professor of Water Engineering in Clarkson's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research spans a wide range of critical areas, including sediment transport, river and coastal dynamics, flood modeling, and water quality and ecosystem analysis. He is widely known for integrating theoretical development, computational modeling and laboratory experimentation to address complex environmental challenges.

Over the course of his career, Wu has authored or co-authored more than 160 research contributions across journals, conferences and books, including 73 journal articles, 78 conference papers, seven book chapters and four keynote publications.

He has also produced two widely recognized research monographs. His work has been cited nearly 7,500 times, reflecting its global influence and relevance.
Wu's contributions have earned him international recognition. Since 2020, he has been named among the top 2% of scientists worldwide by Stanford University. In 2024, he was ranked No. 2 globally in the field of sediment transport by ScholarGPS.

In addition to his research accomplishments, Wu has demonstrated a strong commitment to mentorship and education, successfully advising nine doctoral students. His leadership has helped shape the next generation of engineers and researchers in water resources and environmental systems.

Wu is a fellow of both the American Society of Civil Engineers and the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research. He is also the 2026 recipient of the prestigious Hunter Rouse Hydraulic Engineering Award, given by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

The Lifetime Achievement in Research and Scholarship Award recognizes faculty members whose careers exemplify sustained excellence, innovation and impact. Wu's body of work reflects a deep commitment to advancing knowledge and addressing pressing global water challenges.
