Crown Point, IN- Yesterday, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan convened the first meeting of his Agriculture Advisory Council for Indiana's First Congressional District.
The Agriculture Advisory Council convenes local leaders to discuss the challenges facing farmers' operations, businesses, and livelihoods in Northwest Indiana. The goal of the advisory council will be to meet twice a year to discuss current issues, help guide the Congressman's legislative priorities, and ensure the voices of Indiana farmers are heard in Washington.
Congressman Mrvan stated, "Thank you to all of the participants for sharing your time and expertise on this Agriculture Advisory Committee. I believe protecting and advancing the farmer in Northwest Indiana and America is a national security issue. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I welcome this opportunity to listen and incorporate the council's feedback in my federal policy efforts on issues related to agriculture, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Farm Bill."
The Agriculture Advisory Council is composed of agricultural stakeholders from across Indiana's First Congressional District - including local farmers and leaders from the Indiana Beef Cattle Association, Indiana Corn Growers Association, Indiana Farm Bureau, Indiana Pork, Indiana Soybean Alliance, Lake County Farm Bureau, Lake County Purdue Extension, the Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District, LaPorte County Farm Bureau, LaPorte County Purdue Extension, the LaPorte County Soil and Water Conservation District, Porter County Farm Bureau, Porter County Purdue Extension, and the Porter County Soil and Water Conservation District.
