Amador County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will soon begin a slope repair project in Pioneer that will require one-way traffic control along a section of State Route 88.
The work involves rebuilding the slope and constructing a retaining wall, which will necessitate the closure of the eastbound lane between Carson Drive and Pioneer Creek Drive.
Crews will be on site during daytime hours; however, one-way traffic control will remain in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week, managed by temporary traffic signals at each end of the work zone. Motorists should plan for delays of approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
Work is scheduled to begin Sunday, August 30, 2026, and is expected to be completed by September 30, 2026.
Caltrans advises drivers to allow extra travel time and to use caution when traveling through the area. Roadway repairs and traffic management operations are subject to change depending on weather, field conditions, and construction progress.

Motorists should expect 5-to-10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. All work is scheduled to occur as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials, and construction-related issues.
