Lebanon has officially launched "The School of Citizenship" from the Presidential Palace, marking a transformative moment in the country's educational and social landscape. This national initiative places human capital at the heart of development, aiming to instill values of peace, human rights, and sustainable development in the daily lives of students across the country.
With this pilot, Lebanon becomes the first country in the Arab region to bring the 2023 UNESCO Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights, and Sustainable Development into practice at the school level. This step demonstrates how education can serve as a foundation for social cohesion and resilience, even in the face of complex national challenges.
UNESCO stands firmly alongside Lebanon in this pioneering effort, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to supporting education systems that promote inclusive values and empower future generations. By turning global frameworks into tangible local action, this initiative sets a precedent for the region and beyond.
The launch reflects a unified national effort, led by the First Lady Nehmat Aoun, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Center for Educational Research and Development, the American University of Beirut, and civil society.
With UNESCO's support, Lebanon is charting a new path toward a more cohesive, resilient, and future-ready society-where citizenship is not just taught, but lived.
