Two Men Arrested in the Act of Burglarizing Bordeaux Area Home

Charlie Smithey, 53, and Derrick Rucker, 47, thought it would be a good idea to steal a washing machine from a powerless and unoccupied home in the Bordeaux area overnight. North Precinct officers thought it would be a good idea to put them in jail.

Smithey and Rucker parked a U-Haul truck beside the residence and entered through an unsecured window. A call from a concerned neighbor led to a swift police response. Officers began clearing the house, located Smithey, and placed him into custody. Rucker climbed into an upstairs attic before ultimately surrendering. Both are charged with aggravated burglary, attempted theft, and vandalism. The home sustained water damage when Smithey and Rucker ripped the connected washing machine from the wall. A judicial commissioner set bond for the men at $40,000 each.

This appears to have been an isolated incident. Nevertheless, homeowners in powerless areas are urged to ensure that doors and windows are locked and secured. MNPD officers on overtime continue to provide an extra patrol presence to neighborhoods without electricity. Neighbors are also urged to continue watching out for one another.
