WILMINGTON - The City of Wilmington's Office of Management and Budget was recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
According to the GFOA, the award "reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation."
This distinction is awarded based on an evaluation of how well an entity's budget serves as:
▪ a policy document
▪ a financial plan
▪ an operations guide
▪ a communications device
"The success of any city is built on a foundation of strong economic development efforts and sound fiscal responsibility," said Mayor John Carney. "Our administration will continue to prioritize responsible, sustainable, and transparent fiscal management, and I'd like to thank Rob Greco and the OMB team for their continued leadership."
"This award is the result of the hard work and dedication of the OMB staff throughout the year," said Budget Director RobertGreco. "Their commitment to the four core elements of the GFOA program has strengthened the City's budget process, connected it to strategic planning, and given residents and businesses a clearer understanding of what their tax dollars accomplish. Their work drives the sound financial management, long-term planning, and transparency for which the City is recognized by the bond rating agencies."
The award is viewed favorably by credit rating agencies as an indication of the City's sound financial management and transparency.
