Shapiro Administration’s Business One-Stop Shop Celebrates Major Milestone, Helping 1 Million Pennsylvania Businesses

The Pennsylvania Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS) team provides free guidance to help businesses at every stage - from planning and start up to operating and expanding.

Under Governor Josh Shapiro's leadership, Pennsylvania is one of the best states for business and is the only Northeast state with a growing economy.

Since taking office, the Shapiro Administration has competed for and won over $43 billion in private sector investments that are creating nearly 29,000 new jobs and driving economic growth across Pennsylvania.

Harrisburg, PA - Today, Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger announced the Pennsylvania Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS) surpassed helping one million users through its online Business Hub, providing meaningful tools to help entrepreneurs and business owners thrive in the Commonwealth.

BOSS was formed in October 2018 and launched its online Business Hub approximately one year later. The Business Hub provides free, online resources for all stages of businesses in one convenient location.

"From the beginning, the Shapiro Administration has worked to cut red tape for businesses and provide them with all the tools they need to succeed in the Commonwealth," said Secretary Siger. "The work that the Pennsylvania Business One-Stop Shop does is a terrific example of how we're fostering entrepreneurial and business success. I'm proud of the work BOSS is doing to make sure entrepreneurs and businesses can continue to flourish in the Commonwealth and remain in our communities for generations to come."

BOSS helps aspiring or new entrepreneurs, existing Pennsylvania or out-of-state businesses looking to expand here, and ensures that businesses needing licenses, permits, or forms are connected to the appropriate Commonwealth agency.

"The One-Stop Shop is a great starting point for Pennsylvanians who want to open their own business," said Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt. "It enables them to easily navigate to the Department of State's business filing site so they can register their business and get it up and running."

"The Pennsylvania Business One-Stop Shop is an important tool the Shapiro Administration has in our toolbelt to help position entrepreneurs for success. The resources BOSS offers can be especially helpful for Pennsylvania business owners who are learning about state tax obligations," said Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne. "We're thrilled to see that so many Pennsylvanians have benefitted from these tools. This is a key part of Governor Shapiro's work to support business owners and help them thrive in communities across the Commonwealth."

"Under Governor Shapiro's leadership, Pennsylvania is making it easier for businesses to start, grow, and create good-paying jobs," said Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Nancy A. Walker. "Reaching one million online users is a testament to the value of connecting businesses with the resources they need to succeed. At L&I, we're building on that commitment by helping employers recruit skilled workers, invest in workforce training, and navigate their responsibilities through resources like L&I's Business Services Guide and PA CareerLink® centers across the Commonwealth. When Pennsylvania businesses succeed, Pennsylvania workers benefit."

BOSS provides the following:

  • Helping Entrepreneurs - Resources for aspiring entrepreneurs to achieve their business dreams by providing the right training, guidance, and tools including writing a business plan, naming a new business, choosing a business structure, and getting business advice.
  • Starting a Business - Resources to help with business registration, local registrations, permits, and zoning, as well as special registrations and professional licensing.
