The Willwood tunnel will close beginning Monday, Oct. 19, to help manage traffic near Circle Drive and Janitell Road as crews continue utility work for the Circle Drive Bridges project. The closure is expected to remain in place through early November.
The closure follows heavy traffic backups near the intersection, with travelers experiencing delays up to an hour when leaving the Harrison High School area. Traffic is expected to increase when students return from fall break next week.
Crews are installing a new waterline and completing related work at the southeast corner of Circle Drive and Janitell Road. The work has closed the eastbound slip lane, but travelers can still turn east onto Circle Drive using the right lane of Janitell Road. A detour is in place and is expected to continue through early November.
Travelers should expect the following traffic impacts:
Travelers should plan for extra travel time, use alternate routes when possible and follow posted detour signs. Electronic message boards will also alert travelers to changing traffic patterns.
Construction schedules and traffic restrictions are subject to change.
