MaineHealth management refuses to cut ties with Palantir

Surveillance giant Palantir enables deadly immigration encounters, including July 13 murder in Biddeford

Maine Medical Center registered nurses and community allies will hold a press conference and rally on Thursday, July 23 in Portland to highlight their demand that MaineHealth cancel its contract with Palantir Technologies. They will detail the hospital's latest refusal, in a letter sent on July 13, to address nurses' and community members' concerns and provide transparency.

Palantir's technology has helped enable increasingly deadly encounters with immigration officers, including, most recently, the murders of Johan Sebastian Durán Guerrero in Maine and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Texas. Palantir developed and now operates an application used by immigration officers, called ELITE, which identifies people for arrest, using improperly obtained Medicaid data.

"MaineHealth's executives have no business doing business with Palantir," Meg Sinclair, RN said. "MaineHealth nurses and patients refuse to enable Palantir and its deadly work with ICE and CBP, who just killed our neighbor last week in Biddeford. There is no reason to believe that another company, without a track record of murder and terrorism, couldn't provide the same services Palantir does."

Since as early as 2025, MaineHealth has contracted with Palantir to automate communications with insurance companies, but the terms and conditions of the contract remain unknown. Despite multiple requests, MaineHealth executives have refused to release details of the contract.

Maine State Nurses Association is part of National Nurses Organizing Committee, representing 4,000 nurses and other caregivers from Portland to Fort Kent. NNOC is an affiliate of National Nurses United, the largest and fastest-growing labor union of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members nationwide.
