ICYMI: Missourians Launch Citizens’ Referendum to Fight Back Against Trump and Republicans’ Rigged Maps Arrow

On Friday, Missouri Republicans passed their rigged maps intended to stave off an embarrassing defeat for Donald Trump's party in the midterm elections. As Republicans attempt to undermine Missourians' voting rights, Missourians are taking democracy into their own hands, launching a citizens' referendum to gather signatures in order to give Missouri voters a chance to reject Trump's unjust map on an upcoming ballot.

Prior to Republicans' passage of the gerrymandered maps, Missourians mobilized to make their disapproval known. Recent polling affirms that a majority of Missourians disapprove of Republicans' mid-decade redistricting.

In response to Missourians launching a citizens' referendum to fight back against Republicans' gerrymandering scheme, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"Missouri Republicans' gerrymandering is a carefully crafted and orchestrated assault to undermine the will of voters for Donald Trump's political gain - and Missourians won't stand for it. The people are fighting back to deliver a loud and clear message to Republicans: The people elect leaders into office, not politicians. This ballot initiative is democracy at its best, and Missouri voters should have a right to weigh in on Trump's undemocratic scheme. Make no mistake: This fight is far from over. Missourians are taking democracy into their own hands to oppose these unjust maps once and for all."
