ABU organises virtual Technical Bureau (TB) annual meeting 2025

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union organised the ABU Technical Bureau (TB) Annual Meeting 2025 online on 4 September 2025. It was chaired by Mr Masashi Kamei of NHK-Japan, Chairperson of the ABU Technical Committee, the meeting was attended by Bureau members from NHK-Japan, MNB-Mongolia, TRT-Türkiye, NTV-Nepal, VOV-Vietnam, RTM-Malaysia, Prasar Bharati-India, TVB-Hong Kong-China, IRIB-Iran, and MTV-Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, ABU members shared updates on their organisations' latest technical developments, challenges, and innovations, and highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing innovation, building capacity, and addressing practical needs. Highlights included Dr Binbay's presentation of the Activity Report, which covered initiatives such as the ABU-CCBN Nexus Event, ABU-DRM Webinar, BroadcastAsia 2025, WorldDAB-ABU-ASBU Workshop, ABU AI Forum, and the Member Innovation Webinar hosted by RTM. One of the discussions topic came from TRT's Mr Kazım Pektaş, who suggested establishing an ABU Innovation Hub as a platform for engineers and technical teams to exchange ideas and solutions, particularly in light of fast-evolving technologies and resource limitations.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Technical Bureau elections, the introduction of a draft AI Principles framework, and updates on the Digital Broadcasting Symposium (DBS) 2026, which would feature a new structure to enhance participation. Closing the session, Mr Kamei expressed his gratitude to all attending members for their contributions and reaffirmed the Bureau's collective role in shaping the future of broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific.
