BUTLER, PA -- During a ceremony at his Butler District Office, U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) on Tuesday honored two new Community Champions.
Kelly honored Mark Gordon, Chief of Economic Development and Planning for Butler County, Pa., a position he has held for nearly a decade.
Mark has overseen the rapid growth and development across Butler County. Notably, Mark has been an instrumental partner at the local level, connecting with community and government leaders to help transform Butler County into what it is today. His steady leadership and clear vision for the county - including the development of the Gateway 228 project, which connects the growing communities of Cranberry Township, Mars, Seven Field, and Valencia - is a major reason for our region's success.
Kelly also honored local businessman Scott Docherty.
Both as a business leader and as a neighbor, Scott has spent years giving back to the Saxonburg community and all of Butler County. As president of the steel building manufacturer CID Associates, Scott made a donation of $1,000 to Saxonburg borough in 2024. Earlier that year, he spearheaded a donation drive that raised $3,150 to help save John Roebling's original wire rope workshop, which has stood in Saxonburg for roughly 185 years. These are just two examples of Mr. Docherty's dedication and service to the community he loves.
"For years, Mark Gordon and Scott Docherty have been instrumental leaders in communities across Butler County. They are most deserving of this award," said Rep. Kelly.
BACKGROUND
The Community Champion Award recognizes and thanks service-minded individuals throughout Pennsylvania's 16th Congressional District for selfless and significant contributions to their surrounding communities.
Each winner is presented with an official award plaque from Rep. Kelly's office, a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol building, and a statement of congratulations entered into the official Congressional Record.
This year, Kelly has honored several local leaders and community members for their contributions to PA-16, including students at Moniteau High School, Phil and Laurie Davis, of Crawford County, and Joe Pfadt, of Erie.
