WASHINGTON, D.C.-Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) joined Congressman George Whitesides (D-CA-27) in introducing the Lowering Energy Costs through Grid Modernization Act, bipartisan legislation to accelerate upgrades to America's aging electric grid by modernizing existing transmission infrastructure, reducing permitting delays, and expanding the capacity of the nation's electric grid.

"The future of AI, advanced manufacturing, and American energy dominance all depends on one thing: reliable, affordable electricity," said Congressman Harrigan. "Our electric grid wasn't built for the demands we're placing on it today. This bill takes a smarter approach by upgrading the infrastructure we already have instead of waiting a decade to build from scratch, delivering more power, lower costs, and a stronger, more resilient grid."

The Lowering Energy Costs through Grid Modernization Act helps utilities deliver more electricity over existing transmission corridors by deploying advanced conductors that can significantly increase capacity without building entirely new power lines. The legislation also streamlines permitting for upgrades within existing rights-of-way and encourages investment in technologies that improve grid reliability while reducing congestion and lowering costs for consumers.
