The City of Portland and the Portland Committee on Community-Engaged Policing (PCCEP) are hosting a community conversation about the future of Portland's police union contract Saturday, April 11, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Matt Dishman Community Center Auditorium, 77 NE Knott St. The conversation is intended to give community members an opportunity to share input as the City prepares for upcoming contract negotiations with the Portland Police Association (PPA).
The PPA represents hundreds of sworn officers and public safety staff. The police union contract, formally known as a collective bargaining agreement, establishes key terms such as wages, benefits, disciplinary procedures, working conditions for officers, and aspects of oversight.
The discussion comes amid broader efforts by the City of Portland to increase transparency and public involvement in policing policies. The event will include an overview of the bargaining process, facilitated roundtable discussions, and opportunities for participants to share input to help inform the process. PCCEP is committed to ensuring community input is meaningful, and the conversation will be led by an independent facilitator who is not part of the City.
PCCEPis also accepting applications for new members. The 13-member board volunteers to advise the Mayor and the Portland Police Bureau, independently assess the City of Portland's Settlement Agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, and develops recommendations that shape PPB policies.
