SAN FRANCISCO - June 24, 2026 - The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and the United Service Organizations, Inc. (USO) today celebrated the 60th anniversary of the USO at SFO. Opened in 1966, the facility was the first 24-hour USO airport center in the nation and remains the only USO center in Northern California located at an airport. Since opening, the facility has welcomed over 240,000 members of the Armed Forces and their families. In September 2020, SFO opened a new 5,300-square-foot USO facility as part of the Harvey Milk Terminal 1 project.
"We are proud to celebrate 60 years of the USO at SFO," said Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet. "As the first 24-hour USO center in the nation and the only on-airport facility in Northern California, this facility has served generations of Armed Forces members and their families. My sincere thanks go out to the thousands of USO volunteers over the decades who have staffed this space and made its visitors feel welcomed and appreciated for their service to our country."
SFO is committed to providing an extraordinary airport experience, with seamless access, thoughtful amenities, sustainable design and inspiring artwork and exhibits.

USO airport centers throughout the country offer around-the-clock hospitality for traveling service members and their families. Our trademark USO tours bring America and its celebrities to service members who are assigned far from home, to entertain them and convey the support of the nation. And our many specialized programs offer a continuum of support to service members throughout their journey of service, from the first time they don the uniform until the last time they take it off.
