(CHICAGO) Katten announced today that the firm honored 18 individuals with Pro Bono Service Awards, recognizing their exceptional and sustained commitment to pro bono service and efforts to expand access to justice.
"Through pro bono service, our attorneys strengthen communities, build relationships with nonprofit and community organizations, and gain valuable experience as advocates and advisors," said Katten's Director of Pro Bono Services Jonathan Baum. "The success of our pro bono efforts also depends on the dedication and support of business professionals across the firm. This year's honorees exemplify the collaborative spirit that makes this work possible."
In conjunction with the American Bar Association's National Celebration of Pro Bono, Katten hosted Pro Bono Service Awards ceremonies this week in its US offices and in London.
This year, the firm honored 17 attorneys and one business professional whose long-standing commitment to pro bono service has helped individuals, nonprofit organizations and underserved communities access high-quality legal representation. The 27th annual awards bring the total number of recipients honored since the program's inception to nearly 300, reflecting the firm's long-standing culture of pro bono service.
Attorney honorees provided pro bono assistance on a wide range of matters, including asylum and other immigration cases, criminal records expunction, and counseling for nonprofit organizations on formation, tax-exempt status and governance issues:
Securities Litigation Partner Thomas Artaki of New York also received an honorable mention for his pro bono contributions.
Katten also recognized Veronica Moncada, an administrative assistant in Chicago, for her significant role in supporting and advancing the firm's pro bono program by serving as an interpreter for numerous immigration cases over many years.
Each award recipient receives a monetary honorarium to donate to a charity of their choice.
