Arkansas Democrats Respond to Gov. Sarah Sanders’s Announcement that the Arkansas National Guard will assist ICE with Immigration Enforcement

LITTLE ROCK- Arkansas Democrats Chair Colonel Marcus Jones (Ret.) has issued the following statement about Gov. Sanders' announcement that she will use the Arkansas National Guard to provide administrative and logistical support for ICE operations. Col. Jones is the Former Senior Army Advisor To The Arkansas National Guard.

From Arkansas Democrats Chair Col. Marcus Jones (Ret.):

"The Arkansas National Guard has a long and proud history. I know firsthand that they tirelessly serve our State and Nation in missions at home and overseas- but enforcing immigration laws is NOT one of those missions. This is nothing more than political theater. It's a disgrace, and Gov. Sanders should be ashamed.

Federal assets being used by ICE and homeland security are nowhere near at capacity, and this is an unnecessary flex of power from the Governor intended to impress her former boss President Trump.

Immigrants are our neighbors, and they move our state and our economy forward. We should not allow masked ICE agents to force folks who are seeking a better life for their family into unmarked vans. The complete disregard for due process and human dignity is shocking and concerning. We should strive to be better than this.

Arkansas deserves a Governor who respects the Arkansas Guard enough to NEVER pointlessly put them in this position."
