'Let's Fix This, Let's Get It Done': A Call To Replace Outerbridge Crossing, Extend HOV Lane

Borough President Vito Fossella, State Senator Andrew Lanza, State Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo, and Brue Blakeman, who is the Republican candidate for governor, called for infrastructure improvements to replace the Outerbridge Crossing.
They are also seeking an increase in capacity and an extension of the HOV lane on the Staten Island Expressway.

Borough President Fossella said they were recently told that the Port Authority "has no plans whatsoever to build a new Outerbridge Crossing for at least the next 10 years."

A new Outerbridge Crossing could follow the plans of the Goethals Bridge, which was replaced in 2018

"The bridge is 100 years old," said Borough President Fossella during a press conference on the Tyrellan Avenue overpass of the Korean War Veterans Parkway with the Outerbridge Crossing looming in the background. "On what planet does somebody not step along and say, 'let's fix this thing, let's get it done' as they did, as Bruce noted, with the Goethals Bridge? This is not rocket science. The playbook is there."
