Purple Flags and Pinwheels Honor Domestic Violence Survivors in West Jordan

Rows of purple flags and spinning pinwheels cover the lawn of Veterans Memorial Park this week, each one representing a story, and a reminder, of how domestic violence affects lives in our community.

The display, organized by South Valley Services in partnership with the West Jordan Police Department, marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Each purple flag represents a call for help made to West Jordan Police in the past year, while each pinwheel represents a survivor who found safety and support through South Valley Services.

South Valley Services provides shelter, therapy, and outreach for individuals and families affected by domestic violence across Utah. In 2023, West Jordan Police referred 326 survivors to the organization 98% of whom were considered high danger.

Domestic violence can take many forms, including emotional and financial abuse. Awareness efforts like this display help break the stigma and remind residents that help is available.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, call South Valley Services at 801-255-1095 or visit svsutah.org for confidential support and resources.
