Transit Services of Frederick County Honored for Leadership, Innovation, and Tourism Impact

FREDERICK, Md. - Transit Services of Frederick County has received three prestigious awards recognizing the organization's dedication to public transportation, community engagement, and tourism support. These accolades highlight the contributions of both the team and individual leaders who make Transit Services a vital part of daily life for people in Frederick County.

At the 2025 Annual Conference of the Transportation Association of Maryland (TAM), Transit Services received two major awards:

Rising Star: Mary Dennis

Since joining Frederick Transit in March 2023, Mary Dennis has quickly become a driving force for public transit in the community. She has engaged community members and elected officials, provided travel training, and partnered with more than 15 organizations to adopt bus stops. Mary's achievements have earned her multiple recognitions, including the 2023 Commuter Transportation Marketing and Outreach Award and the 2024 Frederick County Synergy Award.

Outstanding Leadership Award: Jaime McKay

Deputy Director Jaime McKay has led transformative improvements at Frederick Transit since 2021. Ridership grew to over 925,000 in FY25-a 9% year-over-year increase-while service enhancements included expanded rural routes, additional shelters, and the introduction of real-time arrival data through ARPA-funded projects. Known for her hands-on approach, Jaime regularly rides buses, collaborates closely with staff and drivers, and has earned the affectionate title of "Chief Morale Officer." She has also been recognized nationally for her leadership, including honors from Mass Transit magazine and awards for contributions to accessibility and disability inclusion.

In addition, Transit Services was named Tourism Ambassador of the Year by Visit Frederick. This award recognizes Transit Services' role in supporting local tourism and improving access to Frederick County's attractions for visitors and hospitality workers.

"Transit Services plays an essential role in Frederick County's tourism success," said Dave Ziedelis, Executive Director of Visit Frederick. "Their work connects visitors to our attractions, supports residents who depend on reliable transportation, and helps the hospitality workforce that powers our local economy. Transit's dedication to accessibility, innovation, and community service truly embodies what it means to be our 2025 Tourism Ambassador of the Year."

These awards reflect Transit Services' ongoing dedication to connecting people, strengthening the community, and enhancing the Frederick County experience for everyone who lives, works, and visits here.
