NYC Health Department Kicks Off Public Awareness Campaign To Promote Low- and No-Cost Sexual and Reproductive Health Services

STI Testing and Treatment, HIV Testing and Prevention, Medication Abortion, and More Available to All New Yorkers at the NYC Health Department's Sexual Health Clinics

Services Are Available at Low or No Cost and Regardless of Immigration Status

June 9, 2026 - The NYC Health Department has launched a citywide public awareness campaign to spread the word that New Yorkers can access low- to no-cost sexual and reproductive health care at the city's Sexual Health Clinics. With messages in English and Spanish, the campaign highlights the types of services available to all New Yorkers regardless of their ability to pay, immigration status, language spoken, sexual orientation, or gender identity. The campaign is intended to empower New Yorkers to take care of their sexual and reproductive health, and comes at a critical time, as hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers lose or see increased costs to their health insurance coverage due to federal changes. The campaign will run through the end of June on dating apps, digital media banners, social media platforms, and YouTube.

"Good health requires access to high quality health care and information. As thousands of New Yorkers find themselves without health insurance, our sexual health clinics remain available for all New Yorkers to access quality care," said NYC Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin. "Our sexual health clinics have a long history of providing dignified, confidential care, without judgment, addressing critical health needs of New Yorkers."

As changes at the federal level continue to impact people's health insurance, it is essential that New Yorkers are aware of the low-to-no-cost services available to them. Changes in federal laws and funding will cause hundreds of thousands of New York City residents to lose coverage. This includes changes to the Essential Plan, which will result in an estimated 233,000 New York City residents losing coverage. While many will be eligible for marketplace plans, the expiration of enhanced premium tax credits after December 2025 significantly raised the cost of coverage - premiums went up by an estimated $211 on average for a couple - making the individual marketplace much less affordable. On top of this, an estimated 30,000 New Yorkers will become ineligible for any marketplace coverage due to their immigration status.

NYC Health Department Sexual Health Clinics provide low- and no-cost confidential services for people ages 12 and older, regardless of immigration or health insurance status. Most services are provided on a walk-in basis. Services include:

  • STI prevention, including doxy PEP
  • STI screening, testing, and treatment
  • HIV testing and treatment initiation
  • HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
  • Emergency contraception
  • Reproductive health services, including birth control rings, patches, shots, and pills and intrauterine devices (IUDs) and implants
  • Medication abortion
  • HPV, hep A, hep B, mpox, and meningitis vaccination

There are six clinics throughout the city that offer services Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m.:
