Rep. Troy E. Nehls Secures $2 Million for Sugar Land Regional Airport Runway Improvement Project

WASHINGTON, D.C. -Congressman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22) voted "YES" to pass H.R. 7148, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026, which includes $2 million in federal funding for the Sugar Land Regional Airport (SGR) Runway Improvement Project. Specifically, this funding will be used to rehabilitate SGR's Runway 17-35, which in its current form, poses significant safety concerns for pilots, passengers, and the entire community of Sugar Land, Texas, and the surrounding areas that utilize SGR.

"I'm proud to announce that I voted to secure $2 million in federal funding for the Sugar Land Regional Airport's Runway Improvement Project, one of my Community Project Funding requests for Fiscal Year 2026," said Congressman Nehls. "Sugar Land Regional Airport plays a vital role as a primary airport reliever for both George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). It's critical SGR's runways are in excellent condition to ensure the safety of air travel and stimulate economic growth and enhance regional connectivity. The funds I secured to resurface SGR's runway through the appropriations process will offer long-term benefits for residents, businesses, and visitors."

"We are grateful to Congressman Troy Nehls for his leadership and advocacy in securing $2 million for the Sugar Land Regional Airport's runway reconstruction project," said Mayor of Sugar Land, Texas, Carol McCutcheon. "This important investment strengthens our transportation infrastructure, enhances safety, and ensures our airport remains a vital economic asset for Sugar Land, Fort Bend County, and the greater region."
